Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Friday said the country had increased the size of its economy relative to Moldova by ₾11 billion ($4.07bln) over the past four years, arguing that factual comparisons contradict claims that Moldova is in a better economic position.
Speaking on POSTV, Kobakhidze said the gap between the two countries’ annual budget revenues has also grown by at least $2.5 billion.
“The difference is actually even larger, but the annual increase exceeds $2.5 billion in budget revenue alone,” he stated, adding that critics have previously exaggerated comparatively small contributions while overlooking broader fiscal trends.
Kobakhidze argued that Georgia outperforms Moldova in terms of economic performance and business environment, while also accusing Moldovan authorities of corruption, political party bans and media restrictions - claims he contrasted with what he described as a pluralistic media landscape in Georgia.
“When you speak based on facts, you cannot escape reality. But when you make general statements - as some politicians or ambassadors do - you can say anything you want,” he added.
