Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has praised the cultural significance of Georgia’s mountainous regions, calling them the "true guardians of the Georgian spirit and traditions." His remarks came during a speech in the highland resort of Beshumi on Saturday, where he addressed locals gathered for the annual Shuamtoba festival.
“Nothing preserves the Georgian spirit and traditions quite like the Georgian mountains - and mountainous Adjara stands out in this regard,” Kobakhidze said.
The PM also congratulated residents on the occasion, a traditional celebration that unites communities from across the country. “Every visit to Upper Adjara amazes you with its natural beauty, but even more remarkable is the warmth and hospitality of its people,” he noted, thanking the local population for their continued role in preserving cultural heritage.
Highlighting the festival’s role in bringing together people from both the mountains and the lowlands, as well as clergy and laity, Kobakhidze said the event reflected “deeply rooted” Georgian traditions that were “strongly embodied” in the Adjara region.
“I wish strength to the Georgian mountains and to mountainous Adjara, and prosperity to each and every one of you,” the PM concluded.
