Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has met representatives of the United States State Department, with talks focusing on resetting bilateral relations and strengthening strategic cooperation between the two countries.

The Georgian government administration on Monday said the meeting highlighted the importance of rebuilding the US-Georgia strategic partnership on the basis of a “concrete roadmap”.

Kobakhidze reaffirmed the government’s readiness to renew bilateral relations with the United States “from a clean slate” and on the basis of mutual respect, the statement said.

The government administration also welcomed what it described as growing interest from the State Department towards Georgia, pointing to an increase in recent diplomatic contacts.

During the meeting, Kobakhidze underlined Georgia’s role as a “reliable and trustworthy partner” in the region and said the country remained ready to support efforts aimed at ensuring long-term peace and stability in the South Caucasus.

The meeting was also attended by Vice Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili and head of the government administration Levan Zhorzholiani
