Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Monday claimed Georgia had secured increased guaranteed gas volumes under new agreements with Azerbaijan, following what he described as “friendly” negotiations focused on shared interests.
Speaking at a briefing at the government administration on Monday, Kobakhidze said the agreements covered gas and electricity imports and transit, as well as the operation of the Baku-Tbilisi-Supsa oil pipeline.
He added the guaranteed gas volumes Georgia receives under existing contracts, including supplies linked to the Shah Deniz project, have increased under the newly signed arrangements.
Kobakhidze said the talks with the Azerbaijani side were approached “not as a standard dialogue between two states”, but as discussions between partners seeking mutually beneficial outcomes.
He said Georgia had secured what he described as “ideal conditions” in all major areas of cooperation, with both sides’ interests equally considered.
The prime minister also said the resumption of operations on the Baku-Tbilisi-Supsa pipeline would restore revenues lost during its three-year shutdown.
The official also noted the suspension of the pipeline had cost the Georgian state “tens of millions of lari” in potential income, while renewed operations would now generate additional budget revenues.
