Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has congratulated Mamuka Mdinaradze, the former head of the State Security Service, on assuming his new position, saying his role would be important for the coordination of the country’s law enforcement bodies.
Speaking at a government meeting Friday, Kobakhidze noted that it was Mdinaradze’s first attendance at a cabinet session in his new capacity.
The PM underlined the importance of effective coordination between law enforcement agencies, describing their proper functioning as essential for the state.
Kobakhidze said the positions of state minister and vice prime minister would play a significant role in ensuring such coordination and added that Mdinaradze would make a “special contribution” in this regard.
He also said Mdinaradze’s return to active political life would be important both for the government and for the ruling political team.
During the meeting, Kobakhidze also praised Georgia’s law enforcement agencies for preventing what he described as four violent attempts to overthrow the constitutional order between 2022 and 2025.
He claimed there had been five alleged attempts to change the constitutional order over the past four years, four of which he characterised as violent.
Kobakhidze thanked the Interior Ministry, the State Security Service, the Special State Protection Service and other law enforcement bodies, including officers from the Special Tasks Department, for what he called their role in successfully preventing the alleged attempts.
He added that the state would continue efforts to protect the dignity of law enforcement agencies and improve working conditions for their employees.
