Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has described EU Ambassador Paweł Herczyński as a “tragic figure” and questioned the value of a Europe Day event organised under his leadership.
Speaking to journalists in response to a question about the event dedicated to Europe Day, Kobakhidze said the Georgian Government’s participation depended on whether it had been invited.
“When ambassadors organise this kind of event, the government is either invited or it does not participate — it is very simple,” the PM said.
Kobakhidze accused Herczyński of working against relations between Georgia and the European Union during his tenure.
“Herczyński did everything over these years to damage relations between Georgia and the European Union,” he stated.
According to the PM, the ambassador’s role should have been to strengthen and deepen ties between Brussels and Tbilisi, but instead he had acted in the opposite direction.
“He was tasked with strengthening relations between the European Union and Georgia, but in reality he did everything against this because he had such instructions,” Kobakhidze claimed.
“This is a tragic person, and therefore the event held under his leadership unfortunately does not carry great value,” he added.
