Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has confirmed that German Ambassador Peter Fischer had requested an exemption from Georgia’s law regulating grants but was told the legislation applied equally to all entities, including foreign embassies.

“Mr Fischer was summoned to the Foreign Ministry after requesting a meeting with the Government Administration, where he asked for an exemption from the grants law. He received the response that the law applies equally to all relevant entities, including the German Embassy,” the prime minister said.

Kobakhidze further noted that the government was committed to maintaining transparency and preventing external attempts to influence domestic politics, citing the Transparency Law as a key measure to reduce polarization.
