Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has said Georgia’s economy will expand at an even faster pace next year, citing ongoing structural reforms across several ministries.
Speaking to journalists in Guria, western Georgia, on Tuesday, Kobakhidze argued that the rise in hired employment, despite a decline in self-employment, had demonstrated the strength of economic growth.
“Only the number of self-employed has decreased. The number of salaried employees has increased, and this is the main indicator of economic growth,” the prime minister said.
He further pointed to reforms being implemented in the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Infrastructure, including cost-cutting initiatives and new programmes.
“These changes will already bring results this year, but next year they will translate into an even faster pace of economic growth,” Kobakhidze said, adding that Georgia currently ranked first in Europe for growth over the past four years.
He pledged that the government’s goal was to maintain that position and ensure further progress in the years ahead.
