Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has extended his congratulations to the country’s Muslim community on the occasions of Eid al-Fitr and Nowruz, while expressing gratitude for their solidarity during a period of national mourning.

In a statement on Tuesday, Kobakhidze noted that this year’s celebrations coincided with what he described as a particularly difficult time for the country, following the death of Ilia II.

He thanked the Muslim community for their “sincere compassion” and for sharing in the nation’s grief, including the decision to cancel festive events during the mourning period.

“We will never forget this brotherly support,” he said, adding that unity in both hardship and celebration forms the foundation of Georgian society.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the historical coexistence of different communities in Georgia, saying that generations had built the country’s history together and continue to shape its future.

He described the late Patriarch as a figure who showed “special respect and brotherly love” towards the Muslim community, and as an example of tolerance, peaceful coexistence and mutual respect.

Kobakhidze concluded by wishing Muslim families peace, health and prosperity.
