Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Tuesday said combating corruption remained one of the key priorities of the country’s law enforcement agencies, noting that a number of criminal cases had already been uncovered in this area.

Speaking at a Government meeting, Kobakhidze stressed that while identifying past crimes was important, the Government’s main focus was preventing corrupt practices in the present and future.

“The public is well informed about the fight against corruption. However, when we talk about corruption, I want to emphasise once again that uncovering crimes committed in the past is only one part of the process. For us, the main priority is to ensure that any form of corrupt practice is prevented today and tomorrow,” the PM said.

He added that all Government decisions taken in recent years had been aimed at strengthening prevention mechanisms and that the issue would remain a focus in the future.

“We will continue to pay close attention to this matter,” Kobakhidze said.
