Around 5,000 to 7,000 people attended the so-called “overthrow rally” fully aware of its purpose, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze told reporters on Saturday, emphasising the state had a duty to respond to the crimes committed during the October 4 events.

“Everyone knew what the announcement said. It was declared as an overthrow rally. About 5,000 to 7,000 people came there consciously. Of course, moral responsibility for everything that happened on October 4 lies with every person who was present,” Kobakhidze stated.

He added that those who participated in acts of violence would face legal consequences.

“A certain number of individuals have already been identified and legal measures are being applied against them. Naturally, this is not something we take pleasure in, but everyone saw the crimes that took place and the state’s response to such actions is simply our responsibility,” the Prime Minister said.
