Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has announced that the Kvesheti-Kobi road project, a major infrastructure development in the country’s mountainous region, will be completed in about a year and a half.
Speaking to journalists during a visit to Mtskheta-Mtianeti on Monday, Kobakhidze inspected ongoing construction on the 23-kilometre route, which includes a 9-kilometre tunnel and two large bridges.
“This is one of the most difficult sections of road. In about a year and a half the entire stretch will be completed, which will make travel towards Stepantsminda and Kazbegi municipality much easier. It will also ensure comfortable year-round movement,” he said.
Kobakhidze stressed the road’s economic and social importance, noting that it would improve connectivity for both residents and visitors in Georgia’s northern mountain region.
The prime minister also toured other projects in the area, including the renovated Dusheti school and the newly refurbished Mtskheta Museum, which is set to reopen soon with its full collection of exhibits on display.
