Georgia's Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has welcomed newly appointed Interior Minister Gela Geladze, expressing confidence in his ability to deliver “many successes” for the ministry and the country.

Speaking at a government session on Tuesday, Kobakhidze introduced Geladze, who was attending his first cabinet meeting in the role.

“I welcome Mr.Geladze, who is attending the government session for the first time today,” the Prime Minister said. “I would like to wish him success in this very responsible position. I am sure that he will bring many successes to this agency and, accordingly, to our country.”

Geladze replaces Vakhtang Gomelauri, who served in the role for several years. Kobakhidze thanked the outgoing minister for his “very worthy service”.

“I would like to wish Mr. Gomelauri success once again and thank him for his many years of very worthy service to our country,” he added.
