Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Friday said the current situation within what he described as the “European bureaucracy” is “very difficult”, adding that a change in approach towards Georgia would depend on “fundamental changes”.

Speaking to journalists, Kobakhidze was asked about a letter sent a year ago by the Speaker of Parliament to the EU Ambassador, to which the European Union has not publicly responded. The Prime Minister said he does not expect what he called a “healthy position” from the EU.

“I cannot be optimistic, given how long support for violence and the encouragement of violence in our country has continued. We do not expect a healthy position here either, although I hope there will be fundamental changes in the European bureaucracy,” Kobakhidze said.

“Today the situation is very difficult in the European bureaucracy. If there are fundamental changes, then the approach towards the Georgian people and our state will also change,” he added.
