Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Tuesday criticised recent comments by German Ambassador Peter Fischer, saying the diplomat's statements did not merit serious consideration.

Responding to a journalist's question, Kobakhidze described Fischer's remarks as “increasingly difficult to take seriously” and accused the ambassador of making repeated controversial statements.

"To put it simply, Ambassador Fischer has clearly lost his way," the prime minister said, adding that the envoy's latest comments were "so unserious" that they should not be treated as a serious subject of discussion.

Kobakhidze also criticised Fischer for comments concerning countries and peoples that Georgia considers its friends and partners.

According to the prime minister, the ambassador's remarks placed those countries in a negative context, something he said was both regrettable and inappropriate.
