Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has criticised a video released by the EU Delegation in Georgia to mark the country’s Flag Day, calling it “insulting”, “regrettable” and a form of deliberate interference in the country’s internal political affairs.

Speaking to journalists in Abu Dhabi, Kobakhidze commented on the congratulatory video shared on the EU Delegation’s Facebook page, which included footage of a Georgian national flag displayed during a protest rally. The Prime Minister said the use of such imagery on Flag Day was unacceptable.

“When offensive content is posted in connection with Flag Day, it does not even deserve an assessment. This is deliberate rudeness and clearly demonstrates the face of European bureaucracy,” Kobakhidze said.

The Prime Minister said the video represented yet another instance of груse interference in Georgia’s domestic politics and amounts to support for radicalism. He added that it was “very sad and regrettable” that the EU Delegation chose to “congratulate” the Georgian public on Flag Day with what he described as an offensive banner.
