Georgia has made significant strides in employment and economic growth over the past several years, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze told the UAE’s Gulf News in an interview.
Kobakhidze claimed 190,000 new jobs had been created in Georgia over the last three years, reflecting a positive trend in a country with a population of 3.7 million.
“In terms of employment, this reflects a positive trajectory. We are committed to maintaining this growth, which also has a beneficial effect on the social wellbeing of our citizens,” the Prime Minister said.
He also highlighted that Georgia’s nominal GDP per capita has more than doubled over the past four years, rising from approximately $4,250 in 2020 to around $9,000 in 2024.
While economic development remained a key priority, PM Kobakhidze emphasized that Georgia was also focusing on strengthening its international position and expanding regional partnerships. “We conduct numerous visits to neighbouring countries and across the wider region. These visits help strengthen economic cooperation and reinforce Georgia’s role as a connecting hub,” he said.
The Prime Minister further underlined the vast potential for investment in Georgia’s energy sector, particularly in hydro, wind, and solar power. He outlined ambitious plans to increase the country’s electricity capacity to eight gigawatts by 2028 and ten gigawatts by 2030, aiming for self-sufficiency and export capability via the Black Sea submarine cable to Europe.
“Other promising sectors for investment include tourism, agriculture, and real estate, which remain traditional pillars of the economy. Since 2021, the information technology sector has also seen rapid growth, and we aim to further strengthen this part of our economy,” Kobakhidze added.
The Prime Minister emphasized that all the sectors were central to Georgia’s long-term vision, and the government remains focused on sustaining the progress achieved so far.
