Georgia’s Prime Minister, Irakli Kobakhidze, has met leading international organisations in higher education to discuss upcoming reforms aimed at transforming the country’s university system, the Government press office said on Wednesday.
At the meeting in Tbilisi, Kobakhidze outlined the government’s plans for what he described as a “qualitative transformation” of higher education. He said reforms would focus on expanding access to quality education, aligning teaching and research with students’ needs, setting clearer priorities in universities, and strengthening the internationalisation of the system.
The PM further stressed that the active involvement of international partners was “crucial” to Georgia’s education development.
The talks brought together senior representatives of the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA), the European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education (EQAR), the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME), and the European Students’ Union (ESU), among others.
Delegates included Douglas Blackstock, President of ENQA; Stephane Lauwick, President of EQAR; Ricardo León-Bórquez, President of WFME; and Harm Peters, President of the Association of Medical Schools in Europe (AMSE).
