Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has criticized European bureaucrats for “downplaying public support” for his party, Georgian Dream, during recent political developments.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, Kobakhidze highlighted the scale of backing his party had received in recent elections, contrasting it with the portrayal of “smaller protest gatherings” in Tbilisi.

“Twice in a row, more than 1.1 million citizens have supported us. This is where the Georgian people stand. Meanwhile, certain European bureaucrats talk about 300 people gathering on Rustaveli Avenue. Three hundred people is the European bureaucracy’s standard,” he said.

Kobakhidze claimed that the size and unity of Georgian Dream’s support “was evident” in both parliamentary and municipal elections.

“Over 1.1 million supporters stood with the Georgian Dream. They mobilized in local elections as well, precisely because they see injustice from the European bureaucracy. I urge everyone to respect the will of the Georgian people and not take actions against their interests,” he added.
