Any form of amnesty is a humanitarian act, including the amnesty related to suspended driver’s licenses, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze told journalists on Wednesday.

He claimed the decision was made precisely on humanitarian grounds and represents a New Year gesture toward more than 30,000 citizens whose driving licenses had been suspended. Kobakhidze thanked Parliament for supporting the government’s initiative and stressed the importance of responsible driving.

“Issuing this act was motivated exactly by humanitarian considerations. I would like to thank Parliament for supporting the government’s initiative. This is a kind of New Year gift for more than 30,000 of our fellow citizens who had their driving licenses suspended,” Kobakhidze said.

He also called on all citizens to approach driving with the utmost responsibility, emphasizing that driving under the influence of alcohol remained the most serious problem on the roads.

“I would like to ask and urge every citizen to drive with maximum responsibility. The most serious issue is driving under the influence of alcohol, which everyone must avoid. This is our appeal to each and every citizen,” the prime minister added.
