Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Saturday criticised a resolution recently adopted by the French Parliament, which condemns Russian interference in Eastern Europe and raises concerns over democratic backsliding in Georgia, including irregularities in the 2024 parliamentary elections and restrictions on civil liberties, saying “Straight lies are written” into the draft of the document.
The resolution, though primarily focused on support for Ukraine, also mentions Georgia alongside Moldova and Romania, urging closer EU attention to political developments in these countries.
Kobakhidze, responding to journalists, said the resolution reflects the “severe state of European bureaucracy,” arguing that it relies on distortions and untruths.
“This resolution hints at how dire the condition is in European bureaucracy. Straight lies are written into the draft of a parliamentary resolution of a country of that scale. It is a tragic phenomenon we see among European bureaucrats. I hope this situation will change,” the Prime Minister said.
