Georgian PM condemns Estonian Parliament’s stance on his Government, points to “Deep State influence”

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Thursday condemned the Estonian Parliament’s recent statement rejecting the legitimacy of Georgia’s government and elections, calling it a “clearly anti-Georgian” move.

Speaking at a briefing, Kobakhidze expressed his displeasure over the resolution adopted by Estonia’s lawmakers, which declared that the results of Georgia’s last year’s elections were “rigged” and that the Georgian parliament, government, and president were not legitimate.

Kobakhidze’s remarks came in the wake of the Estonian Parliament’s vote on Wednesday, where 59 lawmakers supported the statement and 9 opposed it. The statement reflected strong criticism of Georgia’s political system and accused the government of undermining democratic processes.

“This is an unacceptable and disrespectful statement towards the Georgian people,” Kobakhidze said. He further attributed the stance to what he described as the growing influence of the “Deep State” in Europe, “especially in the Baltic countries”.

“The influence of the Deep State is very serious, particularly in Estonia, where it has been active in shaping political decisions,” the Prime Minister claimed.

Despite his condemnation, Kobakhidze reiterated that Georgia would maintain a “unilateral friendship regime” with Estonia, emphasizing the historical ties between the two nations. “We continue our friendship with Estonia, but such statements are not acceptable,” he concluded.
