Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has clarified that the recent visit of the US vice-president to the South Caucasus was specifically focused on the Zangezur corridor, which he claimed explained why Georgia was not included in the itinerary.
“According to our information, this visit is dedicated to the Zangezur issue. Therefore, it is natural that the American politician is visiting Azerbaijan and Armenia,” Kobakhidze told journalists.
On why Georgia is not part of the US agenda, the prime minister said the matter was up to the American side.
“You know the context of Georgian-American relations. This context is very difficult and was shaped by the [exPresident] Biden administration. We are patiently waiting. Publicly, we have stated that we are ready to renew our strategic partnership on a clean slate, with concrete guidance. We are waiting for the decision of the US administration,” he added.
