Georgian PM, Council of Europe Human Rights Commissioner discuss cooperation, ongoing reforms

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Wednesday met with the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights, Michael O'Flaherty, to discuss cooperation and ongoing reforms, the Government Administration said.

The body added the talks focused on the close partnership between Georgia and the Council of Europe, as well as the implementation of the country’s 2024–2026 Human Rights Action Plan.

Kobakhidze reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to protecting human rights and fundamental freedoms, noting that media pluralism and freedom of expression are ensured by the Constitution and national legislation.

The sides also discussed the humanitarian situation in Georgia’s occupied territories, highlighting existing challenges in the protection of human rights. The Prime Minister outlined the Government’s peace initiatives aimed at building trust and improving conditions on the ground.
