Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has praised Georgian diplomats for their “crucial role” in strengthening the country’s sovereignty and international standing, saying that thanks to Georgia’s “principled and well-considered foreign policy,” the country today stood as a leading state in the region in terms of stability and progress.

Speaking at a ceremony marking Diplomat’s Day on Wednesday, Kobakhidze congratulated members of Georgia’s diplomatic corps and thanked them for their professionalism and loyal service in advancing the country’s foreign policy priorities and defending its national interests.

“The celebration of Diplomat’s Day has become a tradition, symbolically linked with the name of the great Georgian thinker and public figure, Sulkhan-Saba Orbeliani, whose work laid the foundation for Georgian diplomacy,” Kobakhidze said. “This year’s event is dedicated to the memory of Akaki Chkhenkeli, the first Foreign Minister of Georgia’s First Democratic Republic and a distinguished diplomat. It is important that our diplomats continue to serve Georgia with the same dignity and commitment, defending the country’s sovereignty and strengthening its positions on the international stage.”

The Prime Minister reiterated that the government’s top priorities remained de-occupation, the peaceful restoration of territorial integrity, and national development - which he described as “the answer to all the challenges our state faces.”

“Thanks to Georgia’s thoughtful and principled foreign policy, our country today is a leader in the region in terms of stability and progress, and in this, the contribution of Georgian diplomats is truly exceptional,” he claimed.

Kobakhidze also reflected on the challenges of recent years, noting that the past five years - and especially the last three - had been marked by global and regional turbulence “that tested Georgia’s resilience.”

“We are proud that during these difficult years, the Georgian diplomatic corps and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have served the country’s national interests with principle and pride,” he said.

Concluding his address, the Prime Minister extended gratitude to every ambassador and employee of the Foreign Ministry for their dedication and professionalism.

“Once again, I congratulate our diplomatic corps on their professional day, thank you for your service, and wish you continued success in your highly responsible mission.”
