Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has pledged the government’s commitment to safeguarding the employment interests of Georgian citizens amid foreign worker participation in the labour market.

Speaking on Monday, Kobakhidze said that authorities have identified sectors where hiring foreign nationals is permitted and areas where it is considered inappropriate, in order to prevent excessive competition that could disadvantage local workers.

“We must protect the labour interests of our citizens, which is standard practice in any country that cares for its people. We have determined the sectors where foreign employment is acceptable and where it is not advisable. This is important to ensure that our citizens are not subjected to excessive competition,” he said.

Kobakhidze added that quotas have been established for foreign workers, including cases where zero quotas apply, effectively reserving certain jobs exclusively for Georgian citizens. He said the measures were carefully designed to balance employment opportunities and protect citizens’ rights in all sectors.

“In each case, the interests of our citizens were considered, and we believe we have done our utmost to safeguard Georgian workers,” he said.
