Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Thursday highlighted the inadequate infrastructure of state universities as one of the major challenges facing the country’s higher education system, stressing the need for a strong Government response.

Speaking at the presentation of the country’s new education reform, Kobakhidze noted that most university buildings were in poor condition and lacked essential facilities for students’ academic and personal development.

“The challenge lies in the poor infrastructure of state universities and this issue also requires Government intervention. In most cases, university buildings are not in proper condition,” said the Prime Minister.

He emphasised that the lack of student dormitories, as well as cultural and sports facilities, remained an obstacle.

“Dormitories are one of the main challenges. We also face shortages in infrastructure dedicated to cultural and sports activities - all these areas require Government attention and action,” Kobakhidze stated.
