Georgian PM praises Hungary’s “defence of Christian, national values”

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Tuesday voiced support for Hungary’s “dedication to protecting its national and Christian values”, saying the two nations “share a commitment to defending these principles”.

Speaking at a joint press briefing with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, Kobakhidze emphasised the alignment of Georgian and Hungarian values, particularly regarding efforts to “safeguard cultural identity”.

“We particularly welcome Hungary’s actions to preserve its national identity, including Christian values. We are united by these common principles and are fighting to protect them here in Georgia,” Kobakhidze said, underscoring that these “shared values form the foundation of a close partnership”.

Highlighting Georgia’s foreign policy focus, Kobakhidze described EU integration as the government’s “primary objective” and praised Hungary’s “continued support” on this path. With Hungary currently holding the EU Council presidency, Kobakhidze expressed appreciation for Budapest’s backing, especially in advancing Georgia’s EU candidacy.

“The timing of Prime Minister Orban’s visit, during Hungary’s EU presidency, is particularly meaningful. Hungary has long been a steadfast ally in our European integration journey, and I extend my thanks to Mr. Orban and our Hungarian friends for their crucial support in securing our candidate status [last year]”, Kobakhidze said.
