Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze emphasized that reforming higher education was impossible without a preceding overhaul of the general education system, speaking at the presentation of the general education reform concept.

He stressed that students must acquire the knowledge and skills at school that will later be useful in their professional careers, noting that without this foundation, the education system could not succeed.

“Today we have a very important event, presenting the concept of general education reform. We recently introduced the concept of higher education reform. Of course, we all understand that without reforming general education, it is impossible to reform the higher education system. If students do not acquire the knowledge and skills at school that will later be applicable in their professional activities, the system as a whole cannot be successful. Therefore, we have attached particular importance to general education reform,” Kobakhidze said.

He added that the concept was developed using the same principles as the higher education reform concept. It identified “eight key challenges” facing the general education system and proposes eight corresponding solutions.

The Prime Minister thanked Minister Givi Mikanadze and the ministry team, as well as everyone involved in preparing the concept, expressing confidence that its implementation would contribute significantly to Georgia’s progress and development.
