Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has announced that the government will provide full financial compensation to officials impacted by international sanctions.

“If any official suffers financial losses due to these sanctions, the state will fully compensate for the losses. This is not just a response to an unjust decision; it is a response to the worthy actions taken by law enforcement employees,” Kobakhidze stated.

The Prime Minister’s comments follow heightened scrutiny and sanctions targeting Georgian officials, with the government framing such measures as “unjust” and affirming its support for public servants.

The United States and the UK on Thursday imposed sanctions on Interior Minister Vakhtang Gomelauri and other law enforcement officials for “violent crackdown” of protests against the Government’s decision last month to halt EU accession talks until 2028.

Kobakhidze on Friday appointed Gomelauri as Vice PM.
