Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Monday said the trend of declining crime continued in the country, citing it as a key indicator of the effectiveness of Government and Ministry of Internal Affairs measures.
He said crimes against health have decreased by three percent, fraud by 30 percent, robbery by 17 percent, and extortion by 34 percent, while the overall crime clearance rate exceeded 63 percent.
“These results are the direct outcome of specific measures implemented by the MIA. The clearance rate of over 63 percent is among the highest in Europe,” the Prime Minister said.
Kobakhidze praised the dedication and heroism of police officers, noting that special operations, particularly against drugs and organised crime, involve personal risk and demonstrate exceptional commitment. He extended special thanks to Interior Minister Gega Gelashvili for his leadership in achieving these “substantial improvements” in public safety.
