PM Kobakhidze expressed hope that Trump’s administration would ultimately defeat the "deep state" and establish a direct and positive relationship with Georgia.

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Monday called on US President Donald Trump to defeat the "deep state" in the United States and restore a “strong strategic partnership” between Georgia and the US.

In an open letter published on social media, Kobakhidze criticized US policies, accusing American-funded organizations of destabilizing Georgia and undermining its sovereignty.

In his letter, Kobakhidze also expressed surprise at what he described as a lack of communication between the Georgian government and the Trump administration, despite Georgia’s “long-standing support” for the United States.

He highlighted Georgia’s contribution to US-led military missions in Iraq and Afghanistan, where Georgia maintained one of the highest troop contributions per capita. According to him, these deployments had saved the US $2.5 billion, significantly exceeding what he described as "real" US aid to Georgia.

The official further cited international rankings, saying "Georgia is a regional leader in terms of democracy, rule of law, human rights, media freedom, judicial independence, strength of state institutions, low levels of corruption and other key indicators. Georgia’s leadership is confirmed even by institutions that your administration particularly trusts. Taking all this into account—and given that your administration actively engages in dialogue and communication with numerous states, including some that are openly undemocratic and authoritarian—your silence with regard to Georgia lacks any logical explanation from our perspective".

Kobakhidze accused several US organizations, including USAID, the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), and the Soros Foundation, of using American funds to promote what he termed “radicalism” and “gender and LGBT propaganda” in Georgia. He claimed the organizations aimed to weaken state institutions, tarnish the image of the Georgian Orthodox Church, and foster social unrest.

The PM further claimed the activities were part of a broader effort by the so-called “deep state” - a term popularized by Trump and his supporters to describe an alleged network of bureaucrats and officials working against elected leaders.

Kobakhidze also criticized US sanctions imposed on Georgia’s Vice Prime Minister and other government officials, calling them "incomprehensible." He alleged that the sanctions were meant to punish Georgian officials for opposing what he called an "attempted revolution" supported by the Joe Biden administration and financed by USAID.

The PM condemned the recently passed "Friends of Georgia Act" (MEGOBARI Act) in the US House of Representatives, which he described as "hostile" towards the Georgian people and their elected government. Kobakhidze compared the language of the Act to George Orwell’s dystopian concepts, claiming it falsely portrayed itself as supportive of Georgia while undermining its sovereignty.

Despite his criticism, Kobakhidze expressed hope that Trump’s administration would ultimately defeat the "deep state" and establish a direct and positive relationship with Georgia. He emphasized that Georgia remains committed to renewing its strategic partnership with the United States "from a clean slate" based on shared values and interests.

"We very much hope for this. Otherwise, the revolutionary scenario planned under the Biden administration will continue to operate," he warned, suggesting that ongoing anti-government protests in Georgia were orchestrated by American-funded groups seeking to destabilize the country.
