Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Friday said Georgia was the top country among all EU candidate states. In press comments, Kobakhidze argued that Georgia’s position as a “leader in democracy, human rights, and economic growth” was not fully reflected in its current standing compared to Ukraine, Moldova, and Bosnia.

Kobakhidze criticized the “formal ranking”, describing it as “a complete injustice” given Georgia’s achievements across various sectors.

He expressed confidence that once the conflict in Ukraine concluded, “expected within the next year”, relations would be reassessed and Georgia’s “rightful place as a leading candidate” would be recognized.

Looking ahead, Kobakhidze predicted that by 2030, Georgia will be the “most prepared country” to join the European Union. He emphasized that in terms of democracy, human rights, and economic development, Georgia will be the “top contender” for EU membership by that time.
