Georgia’s national basketball team will receive a ₾3 million ($1.11mln) prize from the Government for their historic achievement at EuroBasket, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze announced on Monday.

“Since we have achieved a historic result, we want to mark this achievement with a Government financial award. We believe that ₾3 million should be allocated for the success already achieved, and for every subsequent victory at EuroBasket, at the European Championship, we will also set ₾3 million. ₾3 million for the current result and ₾3 million for each next win — this will be the established prize,” Kobakhidze said.

The Prime Minister congratulated both the basketball and football national teams on their recent victories, describing the day as “very successful for the country.” He emphasised that, for the first time, Georgia’s basketball team has advanced to the top eight teams in Europe.
