Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Friday Georgia’s upcoming local elections on Saturday were marked by a competitive and free campaign, “without the use of administrative resources, intimidation, pressure or violence.”
Speaking at a briefing at the Government Administration, Kobakhidze noted that 12 political parties had equal opportunity to campaign freely ahead of the vote.
“We wish to thank the Central Election Commission for the high-level administration of the pre-election process, as well as law enforcement agencies for ensuring the safety of citizens during the campaign,” he said.
Kobakhidze described tomorrow’s elections as “crucial,” stressing that Georgian citizens would decide the future development of their towns and villages. He urged voters to demonstrate civic responsibility and participate in the polls.
“Over the past years, local self-government has become a branch of authority enjoying particularly high public trust. This is an achievement that every citizen of our country must cherish,” he added.
