Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Wednesday said the Government had adopted a number of “significant measures” to combat corruption, stressing that many practices had been “radically changed” to strengthen transparency and accountability.

Speaking to journalists, Kobakhidze highlighted reforms including the publication of all Government acts and the termination of direct privatisation practices. He noted that these, along with extensive personnel changes, provided the basis for more effective anti-corruption efforts.

“We have taken a number of important decisions in the fight against corruption. In many areas, practices have been radically changed. For example, all Government acts are now published, and the practice of direct privatisation has been stopped. Many steps have been taken and numerous personnel changes implemented. All this allows us to fight corruption to the fullest,” Kobakhidze said.

The Prime Minister underlined that the Government was committed to addressing all types of crime.

“Today our state is stronger, independent, and sovereign as never before. This gives us the opportunity to fight more effectively against every category of crime – including corruption, politically motivated crimes, drug-related offences, and organised crime – areas where we did not have practical opportunities before. From today, you can start counting and see how effective the state will be in fighting against all categories of crime,” Kobakhidze stated.
