Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Saturday spoke at the state awards ceremony honouring cultural figures, highlighting the role of culture, creativity and the arts in shaping national identity.
“It is universally recognised that culture, creativity and the arts play a crucial role in the formation of any nation’s identity and of course, this is true for Georgia as well. For centuries, culture has been one of the main foundations on which our identity was built and which has preserved our national identity to this day,” the Prime Minister said.
Kobakhidze expressed his gratitude to the artists nominated for the awards for their contributions to the development of Georgian culture. He said representatives of the cultural sector - including directors, poets, composers, singers, painters, sculptors, choreographers, performers and folklorists – together create a unified and multifaceted cultural portrait of Georgia.
“Your work goes beyond personal achievement. It serves the development of our country’s culture as a whole and contributes to the progress of our nation. You are engaged in national work while also instilling universal values in future generations, telling the world about Georgia’s history and present, and strengthening our respected place in the family of civilised nations,” Kobakhidze said.
The Prime Minister added that the state award, which is being presented to these cultural figures, is only a modest recognition of their dedication and contributions.
