Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Monday announced that he had invited Pope Francis to visit Georgia. The invitation comes ahead of the 17th-century anniversary of Georgia’s Christianization, which will be celebrated next year.

Kobakhidze emphasized the significance of such a visit.

“I have invited the Pope to Georgia. This visit would be very important. As you know, next year marks the 17th-century jubilee of Georgia’s Christianization, and in this context, a visit by the Pope would be extremely meaningful. We have extended this invitation, and we hope he will visit Georgia,” Kobakhidze said.
