Georgia’s economy expanded by 10.7% in March, while average growth for the first quarter of 2026 reached 9.1%, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has said.
Speaking at a government meeting Friday, Kobakhidze said the country had maintained double-digit economic growth despite regional instability and the ongoing crisis in the Middle East, which he said had also affected Georgia, including the tourism sector.
The PM further noted that strong economic performance was contributing directly to higher average salaries, lower poverty levels, increased state budget revenues and the expansion of government programmes.
Kobakhidze also said one of the factors behind the growth was the government’s anti-corruption campaign launched last year, which he said had positively influenced economic trends.
The official noted Georgia’s economy grew by 7.5% in 2025, while first-quarter results for 2026 showed further improvement.
Kobakhidze also said the government would continue efforts to maintain high economic growth, strong fiscal consolidation and increased foreign currency reserves.
He noted that the National Bank of Georgia had increased the country’s foreign exchange reserves by 154.2 million dollars in April, bringing total reserves to a record 6.47 billion dollars.
The prime minister added that the Georgian lari had remained stable and thanked the government’s economic team, as well as National Bank President Natia Turnava, for their work.
