PM Kobakhidze claimed tackling poverty and raising employment remained core priorities for the government

Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Tuesday said Georgia had reached historic progress in employment and poverty reduction, citing new data from the third quarter of 2025. Speaking at the signing ceremony of the 2026-2030 UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework, he said around 1.4 million people are currently employed in the country, while poverty has fallen to 9.4%, compared with 30% in 2012.

According to Kobakhidze, tackling poverty and raising employment remained core priorities for the government, which aimed to transform Georgia into a high-income economy in the medium term.

“Despite substantial progress, further reducing poverty and inequality remains central to Georgia’s socio-economic agenda,” he said. The Prime Minister added that the government’s long-term reforms and a stable, predictable environment have created “a solid basis for economic advancement and public welfare.”

He also argued that Georgia had established an effective governance system that supports sustained growth and strengthens confidence in the country’s development trajectory.
