Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has met with Irakli Beraia, Georgia’s newly appointed representative to NATO, and Varlam Avaliani, the country’s new Ambassador to the State of Qatar.

The PM congratulated both diplomats on their appointments and wished them success in their new roles, the Government press office said on Wednesday.

Irakli Beraia has long-standing experience in security and foreign policy. He previously chaired the Parliament’s Defence and Security Committee and later the Foreign Relations Committee, as well as leading Georgia’s parliamentary delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly. Earlier in his career, Beraia served as Director of the National Investment Agency at the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development and headed the Reforms and Development Agency at the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Varlam Avaliani, meanwhile, has a background in both media management and public service. From 2021 to 2025, he served as General Director of a media holding company that included Rustavi 2 and several other platforms. Between 2019 and 2021, he was Executive Director of Studio Maestro, and earlier worked as a communications consultant and Deputy Minister of Defence’s adviser from 2012 to 2014. Avaliani began his career as a journalist, working in various Georgian television networks between 1999 and 2013.
