Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Friday said any funding directly or indirectly linked to politics must be transparent to the public.

Speaking to journalists, Kobakhidze argued that some non-governmental organisations seek to avoid such transparency, which he said raises questions about the nature of their funding.

“These explanations should first of all be heard by the public - why they are hiding their funding from Georgian society,” the Prime Minister said.

Kobakhidze added such positions contradict their stance on transparency.

“Any funding connected directly or indirectly to politics must be transparent to society. These organisations are trying to avoid this, which is clear proof that there is something in this funding they wish to conceal,” he said.
