Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Wednesday said any attempt to introduce what he described as “false ideologies” in place of Christianity in Georgia is destined to fail.
Speaking in an interview on Imedi Live, the Prime Minister stressed that Georgia’s 1,700-year Christian history and traditions make such efforts unsuccessful.
“We are a country with distinguished Christian traditions and culture and therefore any attempt to replace Christianity with false ideologies is doomed to failure,” he said.
Kobakhidze claimed there had been coordinated campaigns aimed at undermining the Georgian Orthodox Church, including attacks on clergy and the late Ilia II.
He said these efforts had been defeated, pointing to recent public displays of unity as evidence.
“Not only will hatred not defeat love, but no false ideology will defeat Christianity in Georgia,” Kobakhidze stated.
The Prime Minister added that strengthening faith, Christian values and the Church remains essential for reinforcing the country’s statehood and national identity.
