Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has reaffirmed that, in light of the continued occupation of Georgia’s two historic regions of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali, peace was not merely a political choice but an existential priority. He made the remarks during his address at the plenary session of the international forum Peace and Trust: Unity of Goals for a Sustainable Future in Turkmenistan.
Kobakhidze expressed gratitude to the Turkmen government for its steadfast commitment to promoting dialogue, cooperation, and constructive engagement at both regional and global levels. The forum is organized under the United Nations’ International Year of Peace and Trust, an initiative led by Turkmenistan.
“The principles of peace and trust are not just ideals; they are essential tools for ensuring global stability,” Kobakhidze said, highlighting the world’s growing challenges, from geopolitical tensions and armed conflicts to climate change and economic volatility.
He noted that Georgia’s foreign policy priorities closely aligned with the forum’s themes, stressing that in today’s complex international environment, strengthening trust-based cooperation was vital for a sustainable future.
Kobakhidze also emphasized that, despite ongoing regional security pressures, Georgia remained committed to peaceful development and constructive engagement both regionally and internationally.
