Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has announced that Georgia’s poverty rate fell to single digits for the first time since the 1990s, reaching 9.4% last year.
Speaking at the Georgian Business Association’s conference, Kobakhidze said that while challenges remained, current growth trends could allow the country to eliminate poverty altogether in the medium term.
“These results have a clear foundation. We have a sound economic policy, a liberal tax system, and a free business environment - one of the most significant achievements since 2012. The state is doing everything possible to support business,” the prime minister said.
He added that effective management within government structures had also been key to sustaining positive economic and social outcomes.
