Georgian PM Irakli Kobakhidze has defended recent government policies, saying they were shaped by what he described as repeated attempts to destabilise the country and foreign interference.
Commenting on remarks by Kaja Kallas, Kobakhidze said there had been five alleged attempts to organise a revolution in Georgia over the past four years, involving “externally funded” actors including non-governmental organisations, political parties and media outlets.
He said this context explained the adoption of certain laws, arguing that the authorities had a responsibility to protect national interests against outside influence. Kobakhidze described criticism from European officials as “unfair” and expressed hope for what he called more balanced assessments.
The PM also accused opposition groups of attempting to unite under external direction, claiming such alliances repeatedly fail due to internal disagreements. He added that the ruling party has won multiple elections and predicted further electoral victories.
Kobakhidze further said Georgia should pursue a pragmatic foreign policy, stressing the need to balance relations and defend national interests despite competing external pressures. He argued that such an approach was necessary for a small country navigating complex geopolitical dynamics.
