Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has confirmed that 558 citizens have returned safely from Oman and Saudi Arabia following the outbreak of armed conflict in the Gulf region.
Speaking at a cabinet meeting on Thursday, Kobakhidze detailed the government’s efforts to ensure citizen safety.
“Several hundred of our citizens were in Gulf countries after the start of hostilities. Four chartered flights were organised by the state from Oman and Saudi Arabia, allowing 558 of our compatriots to return home safely. All flights were fully funded by the government,” he said.
The Prime Minister expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Economy, and ambassadors, including representatives in the UAE, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia, for their role in the operation.
“This was a complex situation, and the daily efforts of our embassy staff ensured the safe return of our citizens. These measures were crucial to protecting our people and demonstrating the state’s commitment to their security,” Kobakhidze added.
