Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Wednesday said the country consistently ranks at the top of international ratings related to business and economic activity, highlighting the country’s streamlined bureaucracy as a key factor behind its performance.

Responding to a journalist’s question about Georgia being listed among Europe’s top 20 in the Government Effectiveness Index, Kobakhidze said the recognition reflected the country’s effective system.

“In terms of bureaucracy, we have one of the best systems, which is also acknowledged in the economic field. This is why we rank very high in all ratings related to doing business and economic activities. This new index is another reflection of that,” Kobakhidze stated.

The Prime Minister also emphasised Georgia’s progress in fighting corruption, noting that the country outperforms several EU states.

“Even with the current indicators, Georgia has consistently outpaced seven or eight EU member states in terms of low corruption. This includes justice and other areas where we ensure that decisions are made independently, free from political influence or pressure.

“Business freedom is one of our greatest achievements. It shows that the state does not interfere unnecessarily but instead supports business and economic activities. In every direction, the Government and the bureaucracy strive to be as supportive as possible for every actor,” he added.
