Georgia’s Prime Minister, Irakli Kobakhidze, has said decisions on the treatment of children with Duchenne muscular dystrophy must be based on expert knowledge and careful assessment of risks.
Responding to a question from journalists, Kobakhidze said no level of funding should be ruled out if it leads to effective outcomes.
“Even a billion would not be spared if a specific decision is aimed at achieving concrete results,” he said, stressing the importance of making “reasonable and evidence-based decisions”.
He added that the Ministry of Health of Georgia has the necessary expertise on the issue and should continue its work accordingly.
The prime minister said all risk factors must be taken into account when making decisions, including what he described as the interests of pharmaceutical companies.
Kobakhidze emphasised that public funds should be spent responsibly, with each decision guided by expert analysis and focused on delivering tangible results.
