Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Friday said the Government’s priority was to prevent what he called the spread of “liberal fascism” in the country.

“We must do everything to stop the spread of liberal fascism in Georgia,” Kobakhidze told reporters. According to him, this ideology manifests itself in “distorting equality in an ugly form” and is visible both abroad and in Georgia.

Kobakhidze cited video footage of American liberals allegedly mocking the recent murder of Ryan Kirk, drawing parallels with Georgian opposition figures. “Liberal fascism equalises people everywhere in a very ugly way. A Georgian liberal-fascist and an American liberal-fascist look the same, even visually,” he said.

The Prime Minister linked the Government’s transparency law and other initiatives to efforts to counter this trend. “This law is, first and foremost, a law against liberal fascism. We will protect every step we have taken against it. These disfigured people should not be role models for others. We must stop these tendencies,” he stated.

Kobakhidze also compared the phenomenon to the spread of Bolshevism a century ago, stressing that vigilance is needed to protect the country. “If 100 years ago Georgians had acted with such attention when Bolshevism was being imposed from outside, it would not have been as successful. We must be maximally attentive today,” he said.
